Meet your guide: Allison, The Cesarean Doula

I am a coach, educator, speaker, researcher, and writer who helps mothers heal from the emotional pain of cesarean birth.

My own traumatic c-section caused so much grief, anger, and confusion. I felt misunderstood and mistreated, and it was difficult to find the right kind of support. In reading other mothers’ stories, I discovered I was one of millions of women struggling emotionally after c-section.

I combined my personal experience with hundreds of hours in training and evidence-based insights to develop Transcend, a world-class, one-of-a-kind group program to help mothers heal emotionally and find belonging and safety after cesarean birth.

I have supported hundreds of women around the world with my online groups and programs.

I am a certified postpartum doula, certified VBAC doula, and I hold a certification in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy and a Master’s Degree from University of California, San Diego.

Are there any cesarean mothers who should not enroll in Transcend?

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or if you are suffering from Postpartum Psychosis, I encourage you to get help right now, or call 911.

These conditions are serious and outside of the scope of my work. I want to make sure you receive specialized support from counselors and therapists who specialize in this type of perinatal mental health.

Additionally, this program is designed for women and birthing people whose cesarean culminated with the birth of a living child. If you lost your baby during or as a result of your birth, my heart breaks for you. And I want to make sure you get the specialized, deep, individualized care and support you need and deserve. Postpartum Support International offers free online support groups for bereaved parents, and Dancy Perinatal offers fee-based support groups (on their website you can also view a directory of individual therapists throughout the U.S. specializing in the postpartum period).
